Booster Club Newsletter March 2000
Dear Wrestling Parents,
What a finish to the season! Through the hard work of the wrestlers and coaches, the wrestlers finished with their best efforts of the year, and through the tremendous support of our parents, our Booster Club activities were a tremendous success again. We truly deserve to celebrate and recognize all of the efforts that made this season a tremendous success. The Varsity finished third in the league, runner-up at the Penfield Tournament, and third at the Campbell-Savona Tournament. The JV team was runner-up at the Monroe County Tournament, and had seven All-County wrestlers. The Modified Teams gave us a very strong showing this season and some bright prospects for next year.
Once again the Wrestling Booster Club had a tremendous year thanks to the support of the parents, coaches, and wrestlers. The support for our program came glaring through at the Sectionals. With the contributions from all of our parents, and donations by several local merchants, we were able to make over $2500 for the wrestling program. A very special thanks goes to Tony Kiel (TKs Pizza) and Mike Matney (Pepsi of Rochester) who helped us make over half of the money. We also had nearly $300 in donations from other merchants. We raised nearly $1000 more than we planned through the success of the concessions and the candy drive this year. Over the next month we will look at the needs at every level of our program with the coaches.
Now we turn our attention to the off-season. Anyone who came to the home dual meets or watched the competition at the Sectionals can see the level of competition our wrestlers are up against. If we are going to continue to build our program, off-season wrestling is a key ingredient. That is why Coach Kaper has given the Varsity, JV, and Modified wrestlers information about off-season clubs, tournaments, and camps. By wrestling in March, April and May, wrestlers can get 20-30 matches in, the equivalent of another season. Several area clubs are open to our wrestlers with excellent coaching. Coach Kaper will be helping at these clubs if our wrestlers attend. He will also be dropping the mats at Fairport High School.
Coach Kaper and Coach Porto are in the process of planning a summer camp for all Varsity, and JV wrestlers. Advanced summer camps are also available for the Modified wrestlers. Coach Kaper will talk about all of the off-season activities at the banquet. Anyone who has any questions should call Coach Kaper.
In my last year with the Fairport Wrestling Program I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you for all of the support I received over the past three years. I think we have accomplished an awful lot and its because of the "team" we had to do it. Coach Kaper and his staff, Coach Dawes, Coach Kohl, Coach Porto, and Coach Barker have been extremely helpful in everything we have done. You, the parents, were always there when we asked for help. You never said no. I especially owe a great deal of gratitude to Scott and Brenda Cunningham, two special friends. We have done wrestling, baseball, and football activities over the past years and everything weve done, weve had a tremendous amount of fun along the way. I couldnt have done it without you. And last but certainly not least thank you to the wrestlers. You helped us with our fundraisers and gave us countless thrills and laughs along the way. I know I will miss the fun, the excitement, and the friendships, so I wont be totally gone, and this program will never be forgotten.
Once again all of our coaches and wrestlers, at the Varsity, JV, and Modified levels, deserve a tremendous amount of credit this season. And everyone who helped support the Booster Club this year also deserves recognition for your kind efforts to make this season enjoyable and memorable.
Congratulations Red Raiders,
